Firstsource joins LGBT group Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme

Stonewall works with over 700 organisations in the private, public and third sector

Firstsource pledged its support to diversity and inclusion and become a member of the Diversity Champions programme, run by lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity Stonewall.

From our research we know that almost 70 per cent of LGBT people who are out at work feel more supported by their managers, compared to those who aren’t.

By joining the Stonewall Diversity Champion programme, Firstsource is leading the pack in creating a happier and more inclusive workforce.

As part of the programme, Firstsource will work closely with James Haq-Myles its assigned Account Manager from Stonewall’s Membership Programmes team to ensure that policies and practices can be improved to create an organisation that is inclusive of all staff.

Examples of areas that this could include are: creating and maintaining an LGBT network group, improving monitoring of staff’s sexual orientation and gender identity and introducing staff policies that ensure that all employees are aware of the specific issues that might affect lesbian, gay, bi and trans colleagues e.g. healthcare or legal provisions in countries they might travel to for overseas work.

James Haq-Myles said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Firstsource into Stonewall’s Diversity Champion programme and I look forward to personally working alongside its team to ensure it becomes an inclusive place for all lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff.

‘We know that people perform better when they can be themselves and that a diverse team produces a more creative and productive workplace environment. Meaning that fostering an LGBT inclusive working culture will assist organisations in attracting and retaining key talent.’

‘We hope that this influences other organisations within the sector to sign up to the programme and learn how they can make their organisations a better place to work’.

About Stonewall

Stonewall is Britain’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality, working to create a world where every single person can be accepted without exception.

It was founded in 1989 by a small group of people who wanted to break down barriers to equality. Stonewall continues to campaign and lobby government to change laws to ensure everyone, everywhere, is free to be themselves.

Stonewall works in partnership with a growing network of more than 700 organisations to help create real change for the better.  It campaigns to eliminate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in communities, and empowers LGBT people and their allies to be role models wherever they live, work, shop, socialise or pray.
